Iain Duncan Smith tops poll!

28 December, 2011

At this time of the year Politics seems to be taking a back seat to recovering from the festive food, as the population contemplates an increase in exercise and going to the sales. So we thought we’d have a look at the Conservative Home website and see what they were saying.

Spurred on by the sudden spike in the Opinion Polls that leap-frogged the Tories into top spot on the back of Dave Cameron’s veto at the recent Euro summit, Conservative Home asked Tory members ‘Which of the following politicians is closest to your own politics?

Boris Johnson (scored 2.65 out of 5) was sandwiched between Margaret Thatcher (3.48)and Ronald Reagan 2.45). Perhaps this is due to his sense of humour, but I suspect beneath the facade lies danger for Londoners once the Olympic Games is safely out of the way. Either he will get a second term as Mayor ,or if he loses to Ken Livingston, will be looking for a safe seat in Parliament to take on the Prime Minister.

George Osborne (2.03) is ahead of Dave Cameron (1.42) and Michael Portillo (0.58) are both well down the list.

Further investigation by today’s Independent (page 6, 28 Dec) reveals that, of all the Tory Caninet members, Cameron is less popular amongst Tory members than both our own MP Iain Duncan Smith (the Work and Pensions Secretary) and Michael Gove the Education Secretary.

The Conservative Home survey of 1,566 Tory members, was carried out on 22nd/23rd December.
